Bahrain is the shortest international trip most UAE residents will ever take — under an hour in the air, and close enough that people drive from the Eastern Province. That proximity is exactly why the visa catches people out: it feels like a weekend decision rather than a document decision. The Bahrain visa for UAE residents runs on a dedicated GCC-resident route with two conditions that have nothing to do with your passport and everything to do with your UAE residence. At Green Apple Travel & Tourism, a Dubai travel house since 2012, we check both before you book anything.

Do UAE Residents Need a Bahrain Visa?

It depends on whether you hold a GCC passport or a GCC residence permit — and the two are treated very differently.

GCC nationals do not need a visa. Citizens of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman enter Bahrain without applying for anything.

UAE residents on a non-GCC passport — the large majority of readers of this page — are not covered by that exemption. Instead Bahrain operates a specific GCC-resident electronic visa, which recognises your UAE residence rather than ignoring it. That is a genuinely favourable route, but it comes with eligibility conditions that are checked, not assumed.

The Two Conditions That Decide Everything

Bahrain's published requirements for GCC residents turn on two things, and both are about your UAE status:

  • You must have been resident in the GCC for at least three months. A newly issued Emirates ID does not qualify you. If your residence visa was stamped recently, check the date before you plan the trip.
  • Your return permission to the UAE must be valid for at least three months. This is the one that catches people. It is not enough that your UAE residence is valid on the day you fly — it must have enough remaining validity to satisfy Bahrain that you can return. Travelling close to your residence expiry or renewal is exactly when this fails.

Eligibility also varies by nationality on top of these conditions, so the honest answer for any individual is: send us your documents and we will confirm which of the routes below is open to you.

The GCC-Resident eVisa Options

Bahrain issues several electronic visas relevant to people travelling from the UAE:

  • A two-week single-entry visa for GCC residents.
  • A three-month multiple-entry visa for GCC residents — the better choice if you expect to travel more than once, and frequently overlooked by people who apply for the short one out of habit.
  • A one-month multiple-entry visa for GCC visitors.

One procedural rule applies across the electronic routes: you must be outside Bahrain when you submit the application. You cannot arrive and regularise afterwards.

Your situationWhat normally applies
UAE, Saudi, Kuwaiti or Omani nationalNo visa required
UAE resident, non-GCC passport, 3+ months residencyGCC-resident eVisa — 2-week single or 3-month multiple entry
UAE resident with under 3 months residencyNot eligible on the GCC-resident route — ask us first
UAE residence expiring within 3 monthsLikely refused — renew before applying
Eligible passport arriving by airVisa on arrival may be available at Bahrain International Airport

Visa on Arrival — Available, But Not a Plan

Bahrain admits nationals of a defined list of countries on arrival at Bahrain International Airport. Where it applies it is genuinely convenient, but we would not build a trip around it: eligibility is nationality-specific, the list is revised, and discovering at the counter that yours is not on it is an expensive way to start a weekend. Where an electronic visa is open to you, take it before you fly.

Documents Required

  • Passport valid well beyond your intended stay, with blank pages.
  • UAE residence visa — with the remaining validity described above — and your Emirates ID.
  • Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background.
  • Confirmed return or onward flight reservation. We arrange reservations rather than have you buy before a decision.
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay, or the host's details if you are staying privately.
  • Recent bank statements, stamped by your bank.
  • Employment evidence — an employer letter, or a trade licence if you are self-employed.

How to Apply Through Green Apple Travel

Send your passport data page, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID on WhatsApp, with your travel dates. The first two things we check are the three-month residency condition and how much validity your UAE residence has left — because if either fails, nothing else in the file matters.

If you are eligible we advise which visa duration actually fits your travel pattern, prepare and submit the application, arrange the reservations it needs, and follow it to the decision. If you are not eligible yet, we will tell you when you will be, rather than submitting a file that cannot succeed.

For a written quote covering your nationality and dates, message us on WhatsApp or use the enquiry form on this page.

Processing Time and Validity

Electronic applications are decided in working days rather than hours, and we plan in weeks as we do for every destination. Applications lodged immediately before a weekend or a public holiday in either country sit until offices reopen.

Permitted stay, validity and the number of entries are set by the Bahraini authorities and stated on the visa. No agent can guarantee a decision or a timeline, and we do not offer expedited handling.

Business Travel to Bahrain

Short business visits — meetings, conferences, exhibitions — are generally accommodated within the visit categories, supported by an invitation from the Bahraini company and a letter from your UAE employer confirming the purpose and dates of travel.

Taking up employment in Bahrain is a separate process run under Bahraini labour and immigration rules, and is not something we process.

Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make

  • Assuming UAE residence alone is enough. The route requires at least three months of GCC residency behind you.
  • Travelling close to residence renewal. Your UAE return permission needs roughly three months of validity remaining — not just to be valid on the day.
  • Applying from inside Bahrain. The electronic routes require you to be outside the country when you apply.
  • Taking the two-week visa by default. If you travel to Bahrain more than once a quarter, the three-month multiple-entry visa is usually the better file.
  • Planning around visa on arrival. It is nationality-specific and the list changes — confirm before you rely on it.
  • Buying non-refundable tickets first. Use reservations until the visa is issued; we arrange them.

I had an amazing experience with Ms. Razan! From the very beginning, she was incredibly kind, gracious, and patient. She guided me through every step of planning my Thailand trip, from my visa application to booking my hotel, and she never got tired of answering all my questions, even when I was working within a small budget. She made what seemed like a stressful process feel so easy and smooth. Her professionalism, dedication, and genuine care gave me so much confidence throughout the journey. A special thank you as well to Ms. Ruema for helping with my visa process. I truly appreciate all the support I received. I highly recommend Ms. Razan and Ms. Ruema to anyone looking for a reliable and caring travel consultant. I had an outstanding experience working with Anastasia for my Ukraine visa application. From the very beginning, Anastasia was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. She handled every step of my visa application with exceptional care and made sure that every document was prepared correctly. What impressed me the most was how Anastasia noticed several mistakes I had made before submitting my application. She carefully corrected everything, explained what needed to be changed, and made sure my application met all the requirements. Without Anastasia, I would have probably submitted an incomplete or incorrect application. Throughout the whole process, Anastasia was always responsive, patient, and supportive. She paid attention to even the smallest details and genuinely cared about helping me achieve the best possible outcome. If you’re looking for someone to assist you with visa applications, I highly recommend Anastasia. Her professionalism, expertise, and dedication made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Thank you so much, Anastasia, for your incredible support—I truly appreciate everything you did for me!
