Greece is the Schengen country UAE residents most often apply for as a genuine holiday rather than a business trip, and that changes what the file has to prove. Island itineraries move around, ferries are booked late, and a summer application competes with every other summer application. The Greece visa for UAE residents is a Schengen Type C short-stay visa, decided by the Greek mission in Abu Dhabi and lodged through visa application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. At Green Apple Travel & Tourism, a Dubai travel house since 2012, we prepare the complete documentation and arrange the appointment; you attend in person to give biometrics.

Do UAE Residents Need a Greece Visa?

Your passport decides, not your Emirates ID.

Emirati passport holders do not need a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, under the EU–UAE visa waiver.

Other GCC passport holders do. The UAE is the only Gulf state covered by the waiver, so Bahraini, Kuwaiti, Omani, Qatari and Saudi nationals apply for a Schengen visa in the normal way.

All other nationalities living in the UAE apply for a Schengen Type C visa. Your residence permit lets you apply from here rather than from your home country; it does not remove the visa requirement.

ETIAS starts in the last quarter of 2026, on a date the European Commission has yet to confirm. It is a pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers — relevant to Emirati passport holders, irrelevant to anyone holding a Schengen visa.

Is Greece the Right Country to Apply To?

Under the EU main-destination rule you apply to the country where you will spend the most nights; where nights are equal, to the country you enter first. Greece is unusual in how often this actually works in the applicant's favour: a two-week trip built around Santorini, Mykonos and Crete is unambiguously a Greek trip, even if you connect through another European hub.

Where it goes wrong is the cruise. A Mediterranean sailing that calls at Greek islands for a day each but begins in Italy is not a Greek main destination. So is a trip where Athens is a 48-hour stopover on the way to somewhere else. We look at the nights before anything is booked and tell you which mission the file belongs to.

Where the Application Goes in the UAE

Greece is represented in the UAE by its Embassy in Abu Dhabi, which is the mission responsible for deciding applications made here. Applications themselves are lodged at VFS Global visa application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, so you do not need to travel to the embassy to submit.

Two features of the Greek route are worth planning around:

  • You may be asked to attend an interview. The mission can call an applicant in, and that is a normal part of the process rather than a sign of trouble. It does mean you should not be outside the country in the fortnight after lodging.
  • Documents are accepted in English or Greek. Anything issued in Arabic — some employment letters, certain bank or property documents, marriage and birth certificates — needs a proper translation before it goes in. This is the single most common reason a Greek file is returned incomplete from the UAE, and it is entirely avoidable.

The Summer Problem

Greek appointment demand from the UAE is seasonal in a way that Germany's and France's are not. Slots for June, July and August are taken early, and an application started in May for an August holiday is already competing with files lodged months earlier. Applications can be submitted well ahead of travel, and for a summer trip that is the whole strategy: book the appointment first and let the itinerary firm up around it, rather than waiting for the itinerary to be perfect before looking for a slot.

Documents You Will Need

  • Passport valid at least three months beyond your departure from the Schengen area, issued in the last ten years, with at least two blank pages
  • UAE residence permit valid well beyond your return date, plus Emirates ID
  • Completed and signed application form with a recent Schengen-specification photograph
  • Travel medical insurance covering the whole Schengen area for the full trip, at the minimum required cover
  • Confirmed return flights and accommodation for every night — including the island legs
  • Employment evidence: NOC or salary certificate, or trade licence and establishment documents if self-employed
  • Stamped personal bank statements for the last three to six months
  • Any Arabic-language document accompanied by an English translation
  • For a private visit: an invitation from your host in Greece with their identity and residence documents

Island trips need particular care. Accommodation has to cover every night, including the nights you are moving between islands, and ferry or domestic flight bookings should match the hotel dates. A file with three hotels and a two-night gap invites exactly the question you do not want asked.

Biometrics and the EES Border System

Fingerprints and a photograph are taken in person at the visa application centre — which is why a first Schengen application cannot be lodged entirely without you. Once recorded, biometrics can be reused for later Schengen applications within the permitted period.

At the border, the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational across all Schengen countries since 10 April 2026. Non-EU travellers now have their facial image, fingerprints and travel document data recorded on entry and exit, and passport stamps have been replaced by digital records. Your 90-days-in-180 is counted automatically and exactly. For island travellers this also removes an old ambiguity: internal Schengen movements are not re-stamped, so the entry and exit that count are the ones into and out of the Schengen area itself.

Processing Time

Greek Schengen applications carry the standard processing time of up to 15 days from lodging, and individual files can take longer where further documents or an interview are required. There is no paid express route for a Schengen decision. For summer travel the only real protection is lodging early.

How Green Apple Travel Helps

We provide visa assistance and full documentation preparation:

  • Checking the itinerary against the main-destination rule so the file goes to the right country
  • Building the complete document set, including the English translations Greek files require
  • Making the island legs hang together — accommodation, ferries and internal flights with no unexplained nights
  • Preparing and reviewing the application form against your documents
  • Arranging reservations and insurance
  • Booking the appointment and briefing you for it, including the possibility of an interview
  • Following the file through to the outcome

You attend the visa application centre in person for biometrics, and the decision belongs solely to the Greek authorities. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether Greece is the right mission for your trip before you book anything.

Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make

  • Applying to Greece for a cruise that starts in Italy. The nights ashore rarely make Greece the main destination.
  • Submitting Arabic documents without translations. The most common avoidable rejection on this route.
  • Accommodation with gaps between islands. Every night needs a bed on paper.
  • Starting a summer application in late spring. The slots are gone by then.
  • Travelling in the fortnight after lodging when an interview may be called.
  • Insurance covering Greece alone rather than the whole Schengen area.

I had an outstanding experience working with Anastasia for my Ukraine visa application. From the very beginning, Anastasia was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. She handled every step of my visa application with exceptional care and made sure that every document was prepared correctly. What impressed me the most was how Anastasia noticed several mistakes I had made before submitting my application. She carefully corrected everything, explained what needed to be changed, and made sure my application met all the requirements. Without Anastasia, I would have probably submitted an incomplete or incorrect application. Throughout the whole process, Anastasia was always responsive, patient, and supportive. She paid attention to even the smallest details and genuinely cared about helping me achieve the best possible outcome. If you’re looking for someone to assist you with visa applications, I highly recommend Anastasia. Her professionalism, expertise, and dedication made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Thank you so much, Anastasia, for your incredible support—I truly appreciate everything you did for me!
