Doha is barely an hour from Dubai, which makes Qatar one of the easiest weekends available to UAE residents — the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, the dunes at Khor Al Adaid, and a calendar of sport and events that keeps filling up. The Qatar visa for UAE residents is correspondingly straightforward, but it is not the same answer for everyone: UAE citizens and UAE residents are treated quite differently, and there is one requirement that catches travellers out at check-in rather than at the border. At Green Apple Travel & Tourism, serving the UAE since 2012, we confirm which route applies to you before you book.

Do UAE Residents Need a Qatar Visa?

GCC nationals — including UAE citizens — do not require a visa to enter Qatar. That exemption follows citizenship, not residence.

UAE residents who are not GCC nationals are in a different position, and a good one: Qatar operates a dedicated route for exactly this group. Your Emirates ID and residence visa are the basis of the application rather than incidental supporting paper.

The Hayya Platform and the GCC Resident Visa

Qatar's entry permissions are issued through the Hayya platform, which covers several categories. Two matter here: the Tourist Visa (A1), and the GCC Resident Visa (A2) — the latter designed for residents of GCC states travelling on a non-GCC passport.

For most UAE residents reading this page, the A2 route is the relevant one, and it is applied for online before travel rather than at the airport. Which category fits depends on your passport, your profession as recorded on your residence permit, and the purpose of the trip — which is why we ask to see the documents rather than answer from a general rule.

Visa on Arrival — available, but conditional

Qatar also admits visitors holding certain passports on arrival, and separately operates an arrangement under which a visa can be obtained at the airport in conjunction with a qualifying hotel reservation booked in advance through the official channel.

We would treat the on-arrival route as a fallback rather than a plan. It depends on your passport, on holding the right accommodation booking, and on conditions that can change; arriving without a pre-approved permission and discovering you do not qualify is an expensive way to start a weekend. Where an online permission is available to you, take it.

The Requirement Most Travellers Miss

Qatar requires visitors to hold valid health insurance from an insurer registered with its Ministry of Public Health. This is not the same as holding any travel insurance policy: the insurer must be on Qatar's approved register, and a policy from an unregistered provider does not satisfy the requirement.

It is the single most common reason a UAE resident's otherwise straightforward Doha trip goes wrong, because it is typically discovered at check-in or on arrival rather than weeks earlier. We arrange a compliant policy as part of the file.

Two further baseline conditions apply: your passport must have at least three months' validity from your date of arrival, and you must be able to show confirmed accommodation — a hotel booking, or details of the family or friends hosting you — together with a return or onward flight.

Documents Required

  • Passport with at least three months' validity from your arrival date.
  • UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, valid beyond your travel dates.
  • Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background.
  • Confirmed accommodation for the full stay, or host details where you are staying privately.
  • Return or onward flight reservation — we arrange reservations rather than have you commit early.
  • Health insurance from a Qatar Ministry of Public Health–registered insurer, valid for the visit.

How to Apply Through Green Apple Travel

Send your passport data page, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID on WhatsApp, with your travel dates. We confirm whether you are exempt, which Hayya category fits your passport and residence, and arrange the compliant health insurance along with the accommodation and flight reservations the application requires.

For families travelling together the categories can differ between members, and we check each traveller rather than assuming the household is uniform.

Processing Time and Validity

Online permissions are typically decided quickly relative to consular routes, but "quickly" is not "instantly" and we plan in days-to-weeks rather than hours. Applications lodged immediately before a weekend or a public holiday sit until offices reopen.

Permitted stay, validity and entries are set by the Qatari authorities and stated on the permission. No agent can guarantee a decision or a timeline, and we do not offer expedited handling.

Business Travel to Qatar

Short business visits — meetings, conferences, exhibitions — are generally handled within the visit categories, supported by an invitation from the Qatari company and a letter from your UAE employer confirming the purpose and dates.

Employment in Qatar is a separate process run by the employer under Qatari labour and immigration rules, and is not something we process.

Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make

  • Assuming UAE residence means visa-free. The GCC exemption follows citizenship; residents apply under their own category.
  • Carrying travel insurance from an unregistered insurer. The policy must come from an insurer registered with Qatar's Ministry of Public Health.
  • Passport under three months' validity. The three months run from your arrival date, not your booking date.
  • Planning on visa on arrival. It is conditional on passport and accommodation — use an online permission where one is available to you.
  • No confirmed accommodation. Staying with friends still requires their details; "we'll sort it there" is not an answer at the counter.
  • Assuming the family shares one answer. Different passports in one family can fall into different categories.

I had an amazing experience with Ms. Razan! From the very beginning, she was incredibly kind, gracious, and patient. She guided me through every step of planning my Thailand trip, from my visa application to booking my hotel, and she never got tired of answering all my questions, even when I was working within a small budget. She made what seemed like a stressful process feel so easy and smooth. Her professionalism, dedication, and genuine care gave me so much confidence throughout the journey. A special thank you as well to Ms. Ruema for helping with my visa process. I truly appreciate all the support I received. I highly recommend Ms. Razan and Ms. Ruema to anyone looking for a reliable and caring travel consultant. Thank you for making my trip possible, I look forward to working with you again in the future!

I had an outstanding experience working with Anastasia for my Ukraine visa application. From the very beginning, Anastasia was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. She handled every step of my visa application with exceptional care and made sure that every document was prepared correctly. What impressed me the most was how Anastasia noticed several mistakes I had made before submitting my application. She carefully corrected everything, explained what needed to be changed, and made sure my application met all the requirements. Without Anastasia, I would have probably submitted an incomplete or incorrect application. Throughout the whole process, Anastasia was always responsive, patient, and supportive. She paid attention to even the smallest details and genuinely cared about helping me achieve the best possible outcome. If you’re looking for someone to assist you with visa applications, I highly recommend Anastasia. Her professionalism, expertise, and dedication made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Thank you so much, Anastasia, for your incredible support—I truly appreciate everything you did for me!
