Commercial attestation follows a different first step from personal documents, and that difference is the whole game. Where a birth certificate starts with a government registry, a company document normally starts with a chamber of commerce — and a file that skips that step will be turned away further up the chain without ever being read.
Chamber First, Then the Chain
Documents in this category typically include invoices, certificates of origin, board resolutions, memoranda and articles of association, distribution and agency agreements, powers of attorney issued by a company, and free-sale or manufacturing certificates.
For most of them the sequence is: chamber of commerce in the issuing country → the UAE Embassy or Consulate there → the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The chamber is attesting that the company exists and that the signatory can bind it, which is the fact everything above depends on.
- Signatory authority is checked. A document signed by someone not registered as authorised will fail, however senior they are internally.
- Company details must match exactly. The trade name on the document, on the licence and on the letterhead need to be identical — an abbreviation or a dropped "LLC" is a routine rejection.
- Volume changes the approach. Trading businesses attesting invoices or certificates of origin repeatedly should be set up as a standing arrangement rather than as one-off files.
Commercial files also tend to carry commercial deadlines — a shipment, a tender, a bank facility. Tell us the deadline at the start, because it changes which route we recommend, not how fast the authorities move.
How UAE Attestation Actually Works
Attestation is a chain, and every link has to be completed in order. Skipping one does not slow the file down — it invalidates everything after it, and you start again.
For a document issued outside the UAE, the chain normally runs:
- Home-country authentication. The document is verified by the competent authority in the country that issued it — the exact body depends on the document and the country, and it is where most delays begin.
- UAE Embassy or Consulate in that country. They attest the document after the home-country authority has done so, never before.
- UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The final leg, performed here in the UAE.
The Ministry sets out requirements that apply whatever the document is, and they are worth reading twice because they are the usual cause of a rejection:
- The document must be in Arabic or English, or accompanied by a legally certified translation.
- The original must already be certified by the relevant competent authorities.
- Documents must not be laminated. This single rule ends more applications than any other. If yours is laminated, do not peel it yourself — talk to us first.
- A UAE PASS account must be active to apply through the Ministry's own channels.
The Ministry allows the journey to be completed either as two separate steps — its own attestation first, then the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE — or as a single application covering both. Which is appropriate depends on where the document is going and what the receiving party will accept.
One rule deserves emphasis: a rejected application cannot be amended or reopened. You must correct the problem and submit an entirely new application. That is precisely why we check a file before it is lodged rather than after.
