It is also a destination where the visa process still runs entirely through the consular route: no e-visa, no visa on arrival, and a file assembled to a specific standard before it is lodged. Do UAE Residents Need an Algeria Visa?
Algeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that foreign nationals wishing to travel to Algeria must obtain a visa from its diplomatic and consular posts, with exceptions for a limited number of nationalities. There is no general electronic visa and no visa-on-arrival route for tourism.
Crucially, applications must be submitted to the Algerian mission covering your usual place of residence. For UAE residents that means applying here in the Emirates rather than in your country of citizenship — your Emirates ID and residence visa establish which mission handles your file.
The Organised-Travel Provision — why the route you choose matters
Algeria's published rules contain a provision that is unusual and directly relevant to how you apply. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for tourists travelling within an organised framework — that is, through a travel agency — the visa is issued within 48 hours of the consular post receiving the complete file.
Two things are worth being clear about. First, this is Algeria's own stated provision, not a service any agent invents or sells; we are simply describing a route the ministry publishes. Second, the clock only starts when the file is complete, and completeness is where most applications lose time. A missing repatriation insurance certificate or a photograph that does not meet the specification does not slow the file down by a day — it stops it until corrected.

Documents Required
Algeria's ministry sets a core document list, to which each mission adds requirements according to the visa type:
- Passport valid for at least six months, plus a photocopy of the data page.
- Two recent, identical identity photographs meeting the published specification.
- Identity documents as required by the mission — for UAE residents, your Emirates ID and residence visa.
- A travel insurance and repatriation assistance certificate. This one is explicitly required and is the document most often missing or inadequate — ordinary travel insurance without repatriation cover does not satisfy it.
- The visa application form, completed and signed.
- Hotel bookings or an invitation from a host in Algeria, depending on the nature of the trip.
- Confirmed return flight reservation — we arrange reservations rather than have you buy before a decision.

Processing Time and Visa Validity
The ministry indicates an average processing time of roughly five to eight business days, varying with nationality, alongside the shorter organised-framework provision described above. Plan in weeks regardless: consular workloads, public holidays in either country and any request for additional documents all extend the real-world timeline.
Validity, the number of entries and the permitted stay are decided by the consular post and printed on the visa. Tourist visas are typically issued for a single visit. Fees are set by the mission and vary by nationality under reciprocity arrangements — we confirm what applies to you in writing before any work begins.
Business Travel to Algeria
Business visas require an invitation from the Algerian company, generally accompanied by that company's registration documents, together with a letter from your UAE employer setting out the purpose and dates of travel.
Algeria maintains distinct categories for work, temporary work, study, medical and family visits. Taking up employment is not something a business visa permits, and we will direct you to the correct category rather than submit the wrong one.
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make
- Looking for an e-visa. There is no general electronic or on-arrival route — the application is consular, in person, in the UAE.
- Insurance without repatriation cover. The certificate must include repatriation assistance; a standard travel policy often does not.
- Applying outside your place of residence. Files go to the Algerian mission covering where you live, not where your passport was issued.
- Photographs that do not match. Two recent and identical photographs are specified; two different images will be rejected.
- Buying non-refundable tickets first. Use reservations until the visa is issued — we arrange them.
- Submitting an incomplete file to save a day. An incomplete file does not start the clock at all.
