Armenia sits closer to Dubai than most people realise — under four hours to Yerevan, with Mount Ararat on the skyline, monasteries carved into gorges at Tatev and Geghard, and a summer climate that makes it one of the more sensible escapes from a Gulf August. The Armenia visa for UAE residents has also become genuinely easier, because Armenia now operates a residency-based waiver that lets a large number of UAE residents travel without applying for a visa at all. The catch is that the waiver does not cover every passport, and the route for those it excludes is the most restrictive of the three. At Green Apple Travel & Tourism, serving the UAE since 2012, we establish which of the three tracks applies to your passport before any work begins.

Do UAE Residents Need an Armenia Visa?

Armenia offers three distinct routes, and which one applies depends on your passport — with your UAE residence permit doing real work in the first of them.

Unusually, Armenia is one of the few destinations where holding a UAE residence permit can itself remove the visa requirement. That is not how most countries work, and it is the single most useful thing for a UAE resident to know before planning a trip.

The UAE Residency Waiver, Running to July 2027

Armenia operates a visa waiver that covers foreign nationals holding a valid UAE residence permit, alongside residence-permit holders from the EU, Schengen states, the United States and several GCC countries. It was introduced in July 2025 and has been extended to 1 July 2027.

Where it applies, it permits stays of up to 180 days within a one-year period — considerably more generous than the usual 90-day short-stay allowance — and requires no application before travel.

Three conditions decide whether it covers you, and the third is the one that catches people out:

  • Your residence permit must be valid for at least six months from the date you enter Armenia. A permit expiring shortly after your trip does not qualify.
  • It must be presented physically — as a residence card or a passport sticker. A digital copy on your phone is not the document.
  • Your nationality must be on the eligible list. The waiver covers a defined list of nationalities rather than all of them, and that list has been revised: some nationalities that were previously included have since been removed.

That last point is why we ask for your passport before confirming anything. A waiver that covers your colleague does not automatically cover you, and the list is reviewed periodically. We check your specific nationality against the current position rather than assuming last year's answer still holds.

If the Waiver Does Not Cover Your Passport

Two further routes exist, and they are not equally available.

The electronic visa is open to a wide range of nationalities and is applied for online with scanned documents, with no embassy appointment. For many travellers this is the straightforward fallback.

Entry permission on arrival is available to some nationalities at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport, at Shirak airport and at main land crossings. We would not, however, recommend planning a trip around it without confirming your eligibility first — being turned away at the airport is an expensive way to discover you were not covered.

An embassy application by invitation is the route for a small number of nationalities that are excluded from both the electronic visa and the on-arrival option. Pakistani passport holders fall into this group, including those holding UAE residence, and their applications must go through an Armenian diplomatic mission supported by an invitation. This is a materially different process with a longer timeline, and it is the case where our involvement is worth most.

Your situationWhat normally applies
UAE residence permit, nationality on the waiver listNo visa — up to 180 days in a one-year period
GCC nationalCovered by the same waiver arrangement
Nationality outside the waiver, eligible for the electronic visaE-visa applied for before travel
Pakistani passport holderEmbassy application by invitation — no e-visa, no entry on arrival
Working, studying or staying beyond the allowanceA different category — ask us first

Documents Required

  • Passport valid at least six months from your date of entry, with blank pages.
  • UAE residence permit valid at least six months from entry, and your Emirates ID — the physical card matters here, not a photo of it.
  • Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background, where an application is required.
  • Confirmed return or onward flight reservation. We arrange reservations rather than have you commit early.
  • Proof of accommodation for the full stay.
  • Recent bank statements, stamped by your bank.
  • Travel insurance covering the visit.
  • Invitation where your nationality requires the embassy route, together with the inviting party's supporting documents.

Travelling under the waiver needs far less than this — but border officers may still ask for evidence of your onward travel, accommodation and means of support, so we prepare it either way.

How to Apply Through Green Apple Travel

Send a clear photo of your passport data page, your UAE residence permit and your Emirates ID on WhatsApp. We confirm first whether the residency waiver covers your nationality, and whether your permit has enough remaining validity to satisfy the six-month rule. If it does, you travel without an application.

If it does not, we tell you which of the remaining routes applies, prepare the file, arrange the reservations required as supporting evidence, and handle the submission through to the decision. Where the invitation route applies we will be explicit about the longer timeline rather than let you book on optimistic assumptions.

For a written quote covering your nationality and dates, message us on WhatsApp or use the enquiry form on this page.

Processing Time and Validity

Travelling under the waiver involves no processing time at all — you present your documents at the border. Electronic applications are processed in working days, and we advise planning in weeks. Embassy applications on the invitation route take substantially longer and depend on the inviting party as much as on us.

Permitted stay and validity are set by the Armenian authorities and are not something any agent can influence or promise. Where a stay is granted under the waiver, remember the allowance is counted across a one-year period, so earlier visits reduce what remains.

Business Travel to Armenia

Short business visits — meetings, conferences, negotiations — are generally accommodated within the same arrangements as tourism, with an invitation from the Armenian company and a letter from your UAE employer setting out the purpose of travel.

Employment in Armenia, or a stay beyond the permitted allowance, is a separate category with its own requirements. Tell us what the trip genuinely involves and we will point you to the right route, including when it is not one we can process.

Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make

  • Assuming the waiver covers every UAE resident. It covers a defined list of nationalities, and that list has been revised — check yours rather than a colleague's.
  • A residence permit with under six months left. The six months run from your date of entry, not from the date you book.
  • Carrying only a digital copy of the permit. The physical card or passport sticker is what is presented at the border.
  • Pakistani passport holders planning on the e-visa or arrival route. Neither is available; the embassy invitation route is the only one.
  • Forgetting the 180 days are counted across a year. Previous visits in the same period count against the allowance.
  • Buying non-refundable tickets before confirming eligibility. Use reservations until the position is confirmed — we arrange them.

I had an outstanding experience working with Anastasia for my Ukraine visa application. From the very beginning, Anastasia was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. She handled every step of my visa application with exceptional care and made sure that every document was prepared correctly. What impressed me the most was how Anastasia noticed several mistakes I had made before submitting my application. She carefully corrected everything, explained what needed to be changed, and made sure my application met all the requirements. Without Anastasia, I would have probably submitted an incomplete or incorrect application. Throughout the whole process, Anastasia was always responsive, patient, and supportive. She paid attention to even the smallest details and genuinely cared about helping me achieve the best possible outcome. If you’re looking for someone to assist you with visa applications, I highly recommend Anastasia. Her professionalism, expertise, and dedication made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Thank you so much, Anastasia, for your incredible support—I truly appreciate everything you did for me!
