Moldova is one of Europe's least-visited countries and, for exactly that reason, one of its most rewarding — the wine cellars of Cricova and Milestii Mici, the cave monastery at Orheiul Vechi, and a capital in Chișinău that still feels undiscovered. For UAE residents the Moldova visa is also a file with a genuinely useful shortcut: a large share of applicants qualify to enter without a Moldovan visa at all, on the strength of a visa or residence permit they already hold. At Green Apple Travel & Tourism, a Dubai travel house since 2012, we check that first — because the best outcome we can give you is confirming you do not need to apply.
Do UAE Residents Need a Moldova Visa?
Entry to Moldova is decided by your passport nationality, not by your UAE residence on its own. This is an important distinction: unlike some destinations, a UAE residence permit by itself does not open the door here.
UAE nationals travel visa-free for short stays. Nationals of the EU, the UK, the United States, Canada and a long list of other countries are similarly exempt.
If your passport is not on that list — Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian and many others — you will normally need a Moldovan visa. But before assuming that, read the next section, because it is the reason many UAE residents on these passports travel to Moldova without one.
The Schengen, UK and Ireland Exemption
Moldova exempts travellers who already hold certain visas or residence permits issued by other countries. In practice this covers holders of a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, and holders of a residence permit issued by a Schengen state, the United Kingdom or Ireland.
Two points are worth being precise about, because getting them wrong is what turns a smooth trip into a refused boarding:
- The qualifying document must be valid for your whole stay in Moldova, not merely on the day you arrive.
- A UAE residence permit is not one of the qualifying documents. This exemption runs on Schengen, UK and Irish documents. UAE residence supports your application as evidence of your ties and status, but it does not by itself exempt you.
That second point is the most common misunderstanding we correct on this route. It is also why we ask to see the actual documents rather than take a description over the phone — the difference between a single-entry and a multiple-entry Schengen visa decides the answer.
| Your situation | What normally applies |
|---|---|
| UAE, EU, UK, US or Canadian passport | Visa-free for short stays |
| Visa-required passport, holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa | Visa-free entry under the exemption |
| Visa-required passport, holding a Schengen, UK or Irish residence permit | Visa-free entry under the exemption |
| Visa-required passport, UAE residence only | Moldovan e-visa needed before travel |
| Working, studying or staying long-term | A different category — ask us first |
How the Moldova E-Visa Works
Where a visa is required, Moldova issues it electronically. The application is made online with scanned supporting documents, and the approved visa is issued digitally — no embassy appointment and no passport submission for the standard short-stay file. This matters in the UAE, where Moldova's diplomatic presence is limited and an in-person route would mean travelling.
The short-stay visa covers tourism, visiting friends and family, and business visits. Employment, study and long-term stays are separate categories with their own requirements, and we will tell you plainly when your plans fall outside the short-stay route.
Documents Required
- Passport valid well beyond your intended stay, with blank pages.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, valid beyond your travel dates.
- Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background.
- Confirmed return or onward flight reservation — we arrange reservations so you are not committed before a decision.
- Proof of accommodation for the full stay, or an invitation with the host's details.
- Recent bank statements, stamped by your bank.
- Employment evidence — employer letter, or trade licence if self-employed.
- Travel insurance valid for the visit.
How to Apply Through Green Apple Travel
Send your passport data page, UAE residence visa, Emirates ID and — importantly — any valid Schengen, UK or Irish visa or permit you hold, on WhatsApp. We confirm whether the exemption already covers you before proposing any application.
If a visa is needed we prepare and check the file, arrange the flight and accommodation reservations that satisfy the requirement, submit it and follow it to the decision. If something in the file looks likely to cause a problem, you will hear it from us before submission, not after.
For a written quote for your nationality and dates, message us on WhatsApp or use the enquiry form on this page.
Processing Time and Visa Validity
The short-stay visa permits stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, counted on time actually spent in the country.
Published processing windows for the electronic route vary, and our advice is consistent with every destination we handle: plan in weeks, not days, and apply well ahead of your travel dates. Timelines extend around public holidays and during peak summer travel. We do not offer expedited handling and no agent can commit to a decision date.
Business Travel to Moldova
Short business visits are handled within the same short-stay category, supported by an invitation from the Moldovan company and a letter from your UAE employer confirming the purpose and dates of travel.
Taking up employment in Moldova is a different category with different evidence, and we will say so rather than submit the wrong file.
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make
- Assuming UAE residence exempts you. It does not — the exemption runs on Schengen, UK and Irish documents.
- Relying on a single-entry Schengen visa. The exemption is built around multiple-entry visas.
- A qualifying document that expires mid-trip. It must cover your entire stay, not just your arrival.
- Buying tickets before a decision. Use reservations until the visa is issued — we arrange them.
- Incomplete bank evidence. Statements must be recent, complete and bank-stamped; app screenshots are not accepted.
- Leaving it late. Moldova's limited consular presence in the region makes a rushed application the hardest kind to fix.
