Pakistan is one of the most frequently travelled routes out of the UAE — for family visits, for business across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, and increasingly for tourism in Hunza, Skardu and the Karakoram. The Pakistan visa for UAE residents now runs almost entirely through Pakistan's online visa system, which replaced the older mix of embassy files and on-arrival routes. That change has made the process more predictable, but it has also caught out travellers who relied on arrangements that no longer exist. At Green Apple Travel & Tourism, a Dubai travel house since 2012 and IATA TIDS registered, we prepare and submit these files for UAE residents every week. This guide sets out what the process actually looks like in 2026.
Do UAE Residents Need a Pakistan Visa?
It depends on your passport and, importantly, on whether you or your family have Pakistani origin.
Pakistani passport holders do not need a visa to enter Pakistan and can travel on a valid passport.
Foreign nationals — including Indian, Filipino, Egyptian, British, European and GCC passport holders resident in the UAE — generally need a visa obtained before travel. The online visa system is open to nationals of the large majority of countries, and the category you apply under depends on the purpose of the trip: tourism, family visit, or business.
Former Pakistani nationals and people of Pakistani origin may hold, or be eligible for, a NICOP or a Pakistan Origin Card. These are identity documents rather than visas, and where one applies it can remove the need for a visa altogether. If anyone in your immediate family was a Pakistani national, tell us — it frequently changes the route and is missed by applicants working from a generic checklist.
What Changed in January 2026
The most important recent development is that the visa-prior-to-arrival arrangement was suspended with effect from 1 January 2026. Travellers who previously counted on obtaining permission at the airport, or on a fast pre-arrival endorsement, now need their visa issued before departure like everyone else.
In practice this means one thing for planning: the visa has to be in hand before you fly, and the timeline for getting it needs to be built into your trip rather than bolted on at the end. We have seen bookings made on the old assumption, and an airline will not board a passenger without the required authorisation.
| Your situation | What normally applies |
|---|---|
| Pakistani passport holder | No visa required |
| Foreign national, tourism or family visit | Online visa in the appropriate category, before travel |
| Foreign national, business trip | Business category, with an invitation from the host company |
| Pakistani origin or former national | NICOP / Pakistan Origin Card may apply instead — ask us |
Documents Required for a Pakistan Visa
- Passport valid for at least six months at the time of application, with blank pages.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, valid beyond your travel dates.
- Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background.
- Confirmed return flight reservation — we arrange reservations rather than have you buy tickets early.
- Proof of accommodation: hotel bookings, or the host's details and identity document if you are staying with family.
- Invitation letter where the trip is a family visit or business travel, with the host's supporting identity or company documents.
- Employment or business evidence from the UAE side — employer letter, or trade licence if self-employed.
- Bank statements covering recent months, stamped by your bank.
Business applications additionally need a letter from your UAE employer and an invitation from the Pakistani company, usually supported by that company's registration documents. Requirements differ by nationality and category, so we confirm your exact list before submission.
How to Apply Through Green Apple Travel
Send your passport data page, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID to us on WhatsApp, and tell us the purpose of the trip and your intended dates. We confirm which category fits, whether an origin-based route applies instead, and exactly which documents your file needs.
We then prepare the application, review every document before it goes in, arrange the flight and hotel reservations required as supporting evidence, submit the file, and follow it through to the decision. If something in the file is likely to cause a problem, we will tell you before it is submitted rather than after.

Processing Time and Visa Validity
Published guidance for the online system indicates a processing window measured in working days rather than hours, and our advice is to plan in weeks. Applications can take longer where documents need clarification, where the category requires additional verification, or around public holidays in either country.
Validity, the number of entries and the permitted length of stay are set by the issuing authority according to your nationality and category, and are shown on the visa itself. Nobody — no agent, no intermediary — can guarantee a decision, a timeline, or a particular validity. Treat any offer that does as a warning sign.
Business Travel to Pakistan
Business travel runs under its own category and is generally straightforward when the Pakistani host company provides a proper invitation on letterhead together with its registration documents. The invitation should state the purpose, the dates, and the relationship between the two companies.
Note that a business visa covers meetings, negotiations and similar activity. Taking up employment in Pakistan is a different matter with different requirements, and we will say so rather than process the wrong category.
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make
- Planning around visa-on-arrival. The prior-to-arrival arrangement was suspended from 1 January 2026 — the visa must be issued before you fly.
- Not mentioning Pakistani origin. A NICOP or Pakistan Origin Card can replace the visa route entirely, and applicants routinely fail to raise it.
- Applying in the wrong category. A family visit, a tourist trip and a business meeting are separate categories with different evidence.
- Weak invitation letters. An informal message from a relative or a company is not the same as a signed letter with supporting identity or registration documents.
- Buying tickets before approval. Use reservations until the visa is issued.
- Passport too close to expiry. Six months' validity at the time of applying, not at the time of travelling.
