Taiwan rewards travellers disproportionately for its size — Taipei's night markets and the National Palace Museum, the marble gorge at Taroko, hot springs, and some of Asia's best food at every price level. For UAE residents the Taiwan visa question has two quite different answers depending on the passport in your hand, and one of them is a route many Indian passport holders do not know exists. Do UAE Residents Need a Taiwan Visa?
Entry to Taiwan is governed by your passport nationality. Taiwan grants visa-exempt entry to nationals of a long list of countries, operates an electronic visa for another group, and provides a separate online route for several South and Southeast Asian nationalities.
Your UAE residence matters differently here than on most routes — and, as the section below explains, less than many people assume.
The eVisa — and good news for UAE nationals
Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs lists United Arab Emirates nationals as eligible for the eVisa, alongside Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and others, where the relevant criteria are met.
For an Emirati passport holder that is a straightforward online route with no consular appointment. Note that for nationals of Armenia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Taiwan has attached an additional condition for the period from 31 March 2026 to 31 March 2027, requiring a valid Schengen visa or resident certificate, or a US resident certificate or visa valid for more than 180 days.
The Travel Authorization Certificate — the route Indian passport holders miss
Taiwan operates an online Travel Authorization Certificate for passport holders of India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Where it applies, successful applicants receive a multiple-entry authorisation valid for three months, permitting stays of up to 30 days — obtained online, with no consular visit.
Here is the condition that decides everything, and it is where we most often correct expectations. To qualify you must hold a permanent resident certificate, or a visa or resident card, issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, a Schengen Agreement signatory, the United Kingdom or the United States — valid, or expired within ten years of your expected arrival in Taiwan.
A UAE residence permit is not on that list. This is the single most important sentence on this page for an Indian passport holder in Dubai: your Emirates ID does not open this route. What does open it is a current or recently expired US, UK, Schengen, Japanese, Korean, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand visa — and the ten-year lookback means an old visa in a previous passport may still qualify you. It is worth checking your old passports before assuming you need a consular application.

The Arrival Card Everyone Forgets
Travellers entering visa-exempt are required to complete an online immigration arrival card within the seven days before arriving in Taiwan, on the National Immigration Agency's website.
It is quick and free, and precisely because it is neither difficult nor expensive it is the step most often skipped by travellers who assume visa-exempt means nothing at all to do in advance. We include it in the checklist we send you.
Documents Required
- Passport valid well beyond your intended stay, with blank pages.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, valid beyond your travel dates.
- Any qualifying foreign visa or resident card — including expired ones within the ten-year window, which may sit in an older passport.
- Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background.
- Confirmed return or onward flight reservation — we arrange reservations rather than have you buy early.
- Proof of accommodation for the stay.
- Recent bank statements, stamped by your bank, where a consular application is required.
How to Apply Through Green Apple Travel

Processing Time and Validity
Online routes are decided considerably faster than consular applications, but we plan in weeks and apply early regardless. Where the Travel Authorization Certificate applies, the authorisation is issued for multiple entries over three months with stays of up to 30 days.
Permitted stay, validity and entries are set by the Taiwanese authorities. No agent can guarantee a decision or a timeline, and we do not offer expedited handling.
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make
- Assuming a UAE residence permit qualifies for the Travel Authorization Certificate. It does not — the qualifying documents are AU, CA, JP, KR, NZ, Schengen, UK and US.
- Not checking old passports. A visa expired within ten years can still qualify you; many applicants discard this evidence.
- Skipping the arrival card. Visa-exempt entry still requires the online arrival card within seven days before arrival.
- Applying consular first. Check the online routes before committing to an appointment-based application.
- Buying tickets before the route is confirmed. Use reservations until we know which path applies — we arrange them.
- Assuming family members share a route. Different passports and different old visas produce different answers.
