The answer depends on your passport nationality — not your UAE residency status. The UAE residence visa itself does not grant you any special access to Thailand; what matters is which passport you hold.
Here's the current picture for 2026:
- UAE nationals (Emirati passport holders) enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for up to 30 days per visit, with no visa required in advance. For UAE residents holding a non-Emirati passport who require a Thai visa: per the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, since 1 January 2025 applications must be submitted online via the official Thai e-Visa portal — in-person consulate submissions are no longer accepted.
- GCC nationals (Saudi, Kuwaiti, Bahraini, Omani, Qatari) living in the UAE also generally qualify for visa-free or visa-on-arrival access — confirm based on your specific nationality.

Important note on the 60-day vs 30-day question: Many UAE residents assume Visa on Arrival gives them the same stay as a Tourist Visa. It does not. VOA gives you just 30 days. Who Can Apply for a Thailand Visa from the UAE?
The Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Dubai process visa applications from residents across the UAE. To apply from Dubai, you generally need to meet the following criteria:
- You hold a valid UAE residence visa (employment, investor, student, family, or golden visa)
- Your UAE residency has at least 30 days of validity beyond your intended travel dates

- Multiple Entry Tourist Visa: Valid for 6 months from issue. Each entry grants 60 days. You can make multiple trips within the 6-month validity window.
- Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): Valid for 5 years, with stays of up to 180 days per entry. Designed for long-stay visitors, remote workers, and those with flexible schedules.

Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make
